I never would have believed that I could create this photo. This first attempt isn't perfect and I have a fair few ideas on how to improve for next time. I had always wanted to create this style after seeing photographers create masterpieces of different generations in families.
I did a lot of research and decided to at least try. The first challenge was to take the individual photos with the light hitting their face from the front. I had an assistant to reward them whilst I played with the settings. Raven was my practice dog as she can remain super still, she has the patience I needed and she enjoys it.
I am not one to brag but I actually cannot believe I captured this photo. I haven't done any kind of photography course and everything that I know so far is self taught. Through practice, trial and error and having fun learning, I managed to take photos that surprised me.
The next challenges involves Emma's lighter coat, Hendrix's small size and then Astra's much taller frame. I had to change the position of the light and backdrop. Another challenge was to get them all at the same angle. This isn't easy as some have a tendency to tilt their head when having their photo taken.
I haven't created a composite photo before so this was a big challenge. Not only that but I had to get their sizes as accurate as possible whilst trying to fit them on one photo. It took a day to take the photos and to edit them but I think it was worth it. I think when they all get their winter coats and I have lots of natural light coming through the window, I will try again. I would love to put the photo on a canvas and hang it up in my home.
Emma's side profile was one that I liked the most. She's a beautiful girl and is known to half close her eyes for photos. I was very pleased to capture her beauty.
Drake's was another favourite of mine. His mane, head shape and ears often remind me of a lion. Seeing how he walks and watching lions walk on the zoo TV programmes- they walk the same slow, steady pace yet they walk with a purpose.
After a week of thinking about the photos and how the light and shadows worked, I had another image in mind that I wanted to capture. They haven't come out as I initially hoped but I am happy with them. I will leave taking them for a little while and then consider the settings, the light and how they come together.
This photo of Willow was an experiment. I had no idea that it would work. I was on my own so I didn't have anyone to encourage her. I pointed at the ceiling to my right and asked her to look there... she actually did it for more than a few seconds. I had to quickly get back to my camera, get into position and capture this shot. I cannot imagine being able to do this again and it will be one I will never forget taking.
Maybe one day, I will pluck up the courage to enrol in photography classes and then photoshop courses. I would love to perfect the photos and get the images that I have in my head.
