Over a week ago I had myself convinced Alaska couldn't be pregnant. There weren't any obvious early signs and I tried not to feel too sad. I bought myself an ultrasound scanner a few months ago when I saw a good offer and even though Alaska was approx. 23-25 days into pregnancy, I decided to scan her. I haven't taken a course yet but had read a book written by one of the teachers at the Animal Ultrasound Association. I found Alaska's bladder after altering the gain and depth then I came to what could be sacs. I decided to stop as I thought I cannot possibly have found sacs this early and with my lack of training. I assumed I had come across the tubes of the intestine. I consider myself extremely lucky to have Leanne at my local canine fertility clinic. I sent her the video and she said I had indeed found puppies! I asked if she was sure as I had myself convinced she isn't pregnant. She scanned her using her scanner and we saw the 3 same sacs! I waited a few more days and found them again- I felt like I could finally get excited. It was even more exciting when I scanned them and could see them wriggling around.

I have been looking forward to this litter for a long time. Alaska is my Raven and Drake baby. I welcomed her into the world and now I get to welcome Alaska's babies into the world. Alaska has been incredible with our last 2 litters. She would try and curl up with them, she thought she could feed them and she would clean them. She played with them really well and the puppies loved having their big sister to play with. Drake and Raven have played huge roles in socialising puppies and it will be special seeing them with their grandpups.

I believe Alaska will be a natural mum and have strong maternal instincts, even more so after seeing her with her half siblings. She has shown a lot of resilience with her blood tests (for progesterone), cytology, vet visits and with life in general. I am looking forward to getting to know her puppies. They have great parents and grandparents with well rounded temperaments and I will do everything I can in their early socialisation to prepare them for life.

Alaska and Hendrix are both over 2 years old, are fully health tested and have awesome temperaments that make them great family dogs.
